Upgraded my old toshiba kit which did well for years with the dewalt 20v system. Since I had most of the stuff I figured on a cutoff tool as well. Most of what I do is use it for a grinder. It works well for spot grinding and cleanup on my welds. The battery also lasts a very long time. I carry a extra but rarely need to change it out. The tool is light enough and has good ergonomics. I still carry a corded grinder which is a 7-1/2 for the big jobs. But the cordless freedom is great since i no longer fight for a plug in with the welder.

Powerful, good cutter and grinder. Gets stuff done, far away from 110V power lines. The 20V batteries pack a serious punch in a light weight package. Exhaust pipe in the way? NOT ANY MORE. Steel too hard to saw thru? NOT A PROBLEM FOR THE GRINDER. DeWalt tools are dependable and powerful.

When I first got this unit about 7 months ago, it wasn't obnoxiously loud. I give the unit 5 stars for it's performance with the 20V 3.0Ah Li-ion power packs; it lasts 5 times longer than the older Ni-Cad packs, and I couldn't be happier with its performance. SURPRISING POWER and LIFE. I mostly used it to cut commercial aluminum thresholds, which is very difficult to cut. Aluminum cannot be "cut" by a 1/16" cut-off wheel, it actually -splatters- it apart, and gets the aluminum hotter than hell. The BEST way to achieve the BEST results cutting aluminum is to use a carbide-tipped saw blade, but "we" are not allowed to add unnecessary time, so we just splatter it apart...

I've cut about 250 thresholds, and the grinder has become SOOOOOOOOO LOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUD, that I think the gears are about to explode, but it's still truckin'!!! This thing is SUPER OBNOXIOUSLY LOUDER THAN HELL!!!! So, if you want to use the thing... say at 1am to cut-off a bracket, you can expect the neighbors and the cops to come. I GUARANTEE YOU the cops will be coming. I just can't give it 5 stars due to how loud it is. Make sure you throw the handle and the guard in the garbage. If you get hit by the wheel flying apart, then you will either die, or learn to keep you sloppy head out of the way. I have at least 3000 hours behind these machines with a cut-off wheel. Treat it like an 8" bench grinder... if that wheel blows and your head is in the radial path, you are going to die. You can't live without this DeWalt Cordless anal grinder! This was a 1.5 beer review.
