DEWALT DCK255X 18-Volt XRP Hammerdrill/Impact Driver Combo Kit
Product Description
A Kit That Packs a Punch
The popular DEWALT DCK255X is a two-tool cordless combo kit that's designed to tackle virtually every hole-drilling, screw-driving, bolt-tightening, nut-loosening job you're likely to encounter. This convenient kit contains two professional-duty 18-volt tools: the DCD950 cordless hammerdrill/drill/driver, and the DC825 cordless impact driver. The DCD950 cordless hammerdrill/drill/driver is a powerful, super-versatile tool capable of drilling holes and driving screws in virtually any building material: wood, plywood, composites, plastic, metal, steel, and even poured concrete, stone, and concrete block. It delivers 450-units watts out of power, and features a patented 3-speed, all-metal transmission and a 1/2-inch self-tightening chuck. The DC825 cordless impact driver has a variable-speed of 0-to-2,400 revolutions per minute motor that delivers 1,330 inches per pound of torque. It combines both bit rotation with concussive blows to quickly power drive screws of virtually any length, including long deck screws, fat tile-backerboard screws, and lag screws.

Performance and Runtime
The DCD950 hammerdrill has a patented, three-speed transmission that matches each speed to the appropriate application, offering professional end users maximum performance for various applications. For example, the first speed is ideal for drilling large holes in wood, using large diameter hole saws and self-feed bits. The second speed is ideal for use with auger bits and step bits, while the third speed is most commonly used for fastening and hammer drilling into concrete. The speed shifting control is now positioned front to back and has positive detent stops allowing users to easily shift between various speeds. Additionally, the drill has a two-collar design that enables users to quickly transition between drilling, screwdriving and hammer drilling modes without changing the clutch setting.
The DCD950 XRP hammerdrill is built with a high-power, high-efficiency frameless motor that delivers increased performance for drilling and fastening applications. It is also equipped with an exclusive chuck that self-tightens throughout the application to prevent bits from slipping. The chuck is designed with twice the bit holding strength of traditional ratcheting chucks. Additionally, this hammerdrill has 30 percent more runtime than previous XRP drills due to the optimized frameless motor and patented three-speed transmission, enabling the drill to operate more efficiently.
Durability
In order to meet the jobsite demands of end users, the hammerdrill features an all-steel transmission. The tool has a metal gear case allowing the transmission to dissipate heat and run cooler. Additionally, a steel lockout feature positively locks the tool in drill mode. The frameless motor produces increased airflow through the tool, allowing the unit to function more efficiently. The motor also contains replaceable brushes for easy serviceability.
The DC825 18-Volt Impact Driver
The DC825 impact driver is ideal for steel framers, commercial electricians, cabinet installers, deck builders, HVAC, and wet and dry mechanical contractors who need a compact tool for self-drilling metal screws, setting wood and lag screws, spade bit drilling of up to 1-inch, and a wide range of nut/bolt combinations. The impact driver is equipped with a high-speed frameless motor with replaceable brushes, providing users with high performance, durability and serviceability. The frameless motor design benefits from increased airflow and provides more power, enabling users to complete a wide range of fastening applications. Additionally, the DC825 has a reduced overall length and tool footprint, creating a compact, lightweight tool that allows users to access tighter areas and easily complete overhead applications. The DC825 impact driver has an improved variable speed reversing switch, providing users with more control for both setting and removing fasteners. In additiona, a textured anti-slip comfort grip handle design delivers increased comfort for extended use. The bright LED work light offers additional visibility in dark, confined spaces, and for increased user flexibility and productivity, the impact driver has an OEM accessory recess that provides compatibility with many popular after-market components. This 18-volt model is powered by the DEWALT 18-volt cordless system, which provides users with superior cycle life and runtime.
What's Included
The DCD950 cordless hammerdrill/drill/driver and the DC825 cordless impact driver come complete with two XRP 18-volt batteries, one 1-hour charger, one 360-degree side handle, and a contractor bag.

Good solid tools November 22, 2012
Very powerful drill, you will be glad it comes with a side handle
precise variable speed control
all functions work as they are supposed to
good battery life for NiCad
excellent clutch
LED work light
Cons - drill:
heavy
3 speed switch can feel a little vague
play in output shaft
Still a NiCad
The drill/driver works well, is extremely powerful, and has a very secure ratcheting chuck. The hammer function works well, and the variable clutch is precise and easily adjusted. The LED is a nice touch. My only real gripes are the weight, which I expected considering the NiCad XR batteries, and also a bit of play in the output shaft that the chuck attatches to. It does not 'wobble' as in being out of round, but rather has a bit of fore and aft play, with a bit of spring tension on it. It seems that with just a little pressure, you can push the whole chuck into the body of the drill about 1/8 inch or so, which makes it a little more difficult at times, to precisely start a drill bit, than if it was tight. I think this is by design, as when in hammer mode, as you apply pressure to the bit, it forces the chuck back a bit, into the hammer mechanism. If they could tighten that up a bit, when in 'drill' mode, this would be the best cordless drill I ever used.
The impact driver is a good one. Compact, yet adequately powered. I like that you can insert bits one-handed into it. Again, the LED worklight is a nice touch. Battery life is good for NiCads, and again, it is heavier than a comparable tool with a Lithium battery. It does what it is supposed to, which is apply torque to fasteners, without the typical torque reaction back to you. While the drill actually has more peak torque than the impact driver, being able to drive or loosen screws the impact can't quite handle, it does not try to twist itself out of your hands with use. Instead it has a hammer mechanism, that applies torque in little impulses, to drive or remove fasteners. If it had a little more power, it would be 5 stars. As it is, it doesn't have any more power than the Craftsman it replaced, which sells for half the price. Hopefully, the DeWalt, will last longer, but only time will tell. As of right now, I consider it a good, but not spectacular tool.
